SANDALWOOD SEED HARVESTING

FEBRUARY 2019

Approximately 350 kilograms of fresh Western Australian Sandalwood (Santalum spicatum) seed collected from a GP Forestry plantation. This seed was collected by one person in 10 hours.

This seed is destined for Asia where the valuable seed oil will be extracted and used as an ingredient in a range of skin care and cosmetic products.

The sandalwood seed oil industry continues to develop with interest from around the world. The annual harvest of seed from plantations is providing growers with an income that is additional to the long-term aromatic wood harvest.
